A quiet winter
de bonne heure ce matin
la valse hésitante à trois temps
des flocons de neige

Digital chigiri-e by Fern Jean-Joseph
This digital chigiri-e work explores intimacy as a sensory memory — something unseen yet unmistakably present. Soft, organic forms in deep indigo and warm crimson drift across the surface, evoking breath, warmth, and the lingering trace of a body just departed.
Inspired by the Japanese tradition of chigiri-e, the composition reinterprets torn-paper aesthetics through a contemporary digital process. The layered textures, irregular edges, and suspended marks echo tactile gestures, while the colour palette suggests flesh, shadow, and closeness — a quiet tension between fragility and desire.
The Scent of Your Skin belongs to an independent body of visual work within Fern Jean-Joseph’s practice, rooted in a long-standing admiration for Japanese art, minimalism, and emotional restraint. This piece is not connected to a literary project, but stands on its own as a visual meditation on intimacy and presence.
The artwork is offered as an A4 giclée print, produced with archival pigment inks on fine art paper. Giclée printing ensures exceptional depth, tonal subtlety, and long-term durability, faithfully preserving the nuances of the original digital composition.
Released as a strictly limited edition of no more than 10 copies, each print is conceived as a discreet, evocative object — suited to private spaces and collectors drawn to contemporary abstraction, Japanese-inspired aesthetics, and the poetry of the body.
